When should I seek help?
If you have had persistent symptoms (2 to 4 weeks) and it has had a significant adverse impact on your personal, social and occupational/academic circumstances, then it's time to seek help. And if you have been having very negative thoughts of self-harm, you should certainly reach out for help.
How long does a consultation take?
A preliminary consultation typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour. Follow up sessions usually take 30 minutes.
How soon can I expect to make recovery?
In the vast majority of cases of anxiety or mood disorders, you can expect to see some progress in 4 weeks or so and hopefully recovery in a matter of months.
Will I be dependent on medications?
The need for medications will be addressed only after an initial assessment. Not all circumstances warrant medications. For most cases, we will commence treatment with medications, and aim to taper it down after a period of time. Only for certain chronic and serious illnesses are medications required for a prolonged period.
Will counselling and therapy help me?
Yes indeed it will. Not all disorders require medications and can be helped very well with specialised forms of therapy. For example EMDR , which we offer here, has been proven to help in PTSD, anxiety and substance use to name a few.
I’m scared, will I feel comfortable during my first consultation?
Our therapist will ensure that the initial session will be done in a quiet and comfortable setting. You may come along with a family member or friend if you feel apprehensive. Do remember that you can move at a pace you're comfortable with. Of course, all matters discussed during your consultation are strictly private and confidential.
